ELECTORAL REFORM SNIPPET

February 27, 2021 By Donald McKenzie Leave a Comment

ELECTORAL REFORM;

*The threshold for a party to gain a seat in parliament is unfairly high. Why have a threshold at all? Switzerland has none. The number of parties gaining seats in the Swiss United Federal Assembly (parliament) is eleven with the smallest at .3%, YES JUST POINT 3%.

*Binding Citizen’s Initiatives and the 100 days optional (facultative) Referenda as the premier goal for electoral reform.

*All or any policy or matter could be subject to Referenda, especially hastily enacted laws.

*The inertia of the status quo to be overcome using Citizen’s Initiatives with signature requirements the same as Switzerland.

*No elected Member of Parliament to hold two or more passports. Question of loyalty.

*Elected Members of Parliament to be New Zealand Citizens. Loyalty to New Zealand.

* All swear allegiance on the Bible as a pillar of our culture. Definitely no oaths on the Koran. Remember the Koran has over one hundred verses inciting violence against Jews, Christians and other non-Muslims. Definitely a question of loyalty.

* Term limit of 9 years i.e. three terms and members of parliament retire.
